VDP estate wine
The Scheurebe is a cross between Riesling and the Buket grape. It is named after its inventor, Georg Scheu, who brought this variety to light in Franconia in 1916. In addition to dry qualities, it is also used successfully in the residual and noble sweet segment. In Austria and Germany, it is especially widespread. I see the strengths, however, especially as an aroma variety and in direct comparison with the inter-national competition from Sauvignon blanc, Verdejo and Co. Here, the Scheurebe can play along very well and finds its loyal followers even beyond the warm months.
Color
light straw yellow, green reflexes.
Nose
The first nose is as expected exotic. Passion fruit, grapefruit and mango I feel pleasant and unobtrusive in the glass. In addition, there is a little rhubarb and raspberry. The H.O. Spanier-typical clarity brings this nose into sensory shape. A light herbal tone develops in the glass and prepares me anticipation for the first sip.
Palate
The first sip is animating and clear. The exotic fruit now shows itself clearly more discreet and immature in the positive sense. Crystal clear fruit and a well stimulated salivation set the tone. H.O.. Spanier also shows with this wine that he has hit top form in 2019. As it progresses, there is a grassy component that adds even more freshness to the wine. The acidity is very moderate and mild. The Quinterra Scheurebe is nevertheless light-footed and lean on the way.
