Info about the situation
The 40-year-old vines stand on lime and sandstone in the Grand Cru Pfersigberg. The yields here are only 35 hl/ha.
Expansion
The grapes were hand-harvested and transformed into wine more on the principle of infusion than extraction. Fermentation was spontaneous in tank with 40 % whole grapes, then 17 months in barrique . Malolactic acid reduction in spring, no fining.
Color
Muted violet-red with minimal lightening towards the rim.
Nose
In 2020, the Pinot Noir Grand P reveals itself to us as a dark berry, deep and earthy representative of a grandiose Pinot, full of minerality, with a smoky touch, the scent of truffles and juicy blackberry and redcurrant fruit. One literally wants to dive in and sink into this aroma full of expression and depth. After a longer opening, fresh herbal notes of rosemary and thyme join in, as well as a hint of graphite.
Palate
What a Burgundian impression full of intensity on our tongue, dense, salty, compact. Lots of dark fruit, velvety tannin, invigorating acidity and a long finish testify to the beauty of this Pinot, which will intensify with further maturity.
If you want to enjoy it in its youthful stage, you should pour it slightly chilled from the decanter into Burgundy glasses.
