Color
In the rich golden yellow of a yolk, the wine shows itself clear and shiny.
Nose
Driven by yellow-fleshed juicy fruit, the wine displays a gorgeous array of aromas. Ripe apricot and Charentais melon, as well as the ethereal spice of blood orange zest and the anticipated sweetness of a candied dried pineapple combine benevolently with herbal notes of meadow sage and spruce shoots, as well as dandelion and honeybush tea. Yes, even the beeswax under the cap gets its aromatic piece of the pie.
Palate
The 2014 Pinot Gris Rotenberg from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is generous on the palate. On the one hand, it is broad-shouldered and of noteworthy opulence, on the other hand, it is well-balanced, close-meshed and compact. Its power and its creamy fruit melt are balanced and flanked by a delicate bitterness and moderate acidity in the echo of its finish. A vinophile illustration of the principle of Yin and Yang.
