Piandorino is the introduction to the wines of Pian del'Orino. Pressed from 100% Sangiovese, the grapes come from young vineyards as well as experimental vineyards or cooler sites of calcareous clay, weathered marl, blue-grey limestone from the Pliocene as well as Alberese and flysch soils and have a south-eastern exposure. The grapes from the Moro, Cancello Rosso and Pian Bassolino vineyards thrived at 320 m to 480 m above sea level, and the age of the vines at the time of harvest was between 7 and 13 years.
After meticulous sorting by hand in the vineyard, grape reception and at the sorting table, the grapes are fermented spontaneously and this year remained on the skins for 18 days before being matured for 17 months in 15-hectolitre barrels.
Color
Transparent ruby red.
Nose
On the nose, the 2019 Piandorino from Pian dell'Orino shines like a sparkling ruby, chiselled from Sangiovese. Tartly spicy with subtle hints of sloes and mild spices, it is red-fruited with notes of sour cherries, mulberries and laurels and combines its juicy, taut fruit with a Mediterranean holiday feeling under a cork.
Mouth
With polished tannins and precisely crafted red cherry fruit, it is accelerated on the palate by its ripe but broadly stretched acidic arc, which is responsible for its transparent freshness and low-threshold sipping resistance. A perfect liaison of fruit, acidity, fragrant extract and animatingly tart tannins that oscillate aromatically between Mediterranean herbs and cocoa nibs.
