Wine information

The La Rochelle site in Moulin-à-Vent covers 19 hectares, of which the Chastels own 2.3 hectares. The site is located slightly west of the village centre on deep weathered granite. The vines of the Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc, as it is called in full, are around 50 years old and yield between 25 and 35 hl/ha. After manual harvesting and sorting, whole bunches were used. Undamaged berries were placed at the bottom of the concrete cuve, bruised ones on top, so that the Gamay could be left for about 15 days. Macération semi-carbonique could pass through. The wine was then aged for one year in used wood.

Nose

The La Rochelle is a wonderfully clear and brightly aromatic 2019 Moulin-à-Vent. It is reminiscent of redcurrants and barberries, sour cherries and ripe raspberries, and has subtle notes of plums cooked down with a little vanilla and cinnamon.

Palate

On the palate, the wine combines the slightly sweet and vanilla elements with notes of smoke, earth and some dry wood. The Moulin-à-Vent has a lively acidity and fine tannin. Despite its density in fruit, it appears impressively transparent and clear, to a certain extent pleasantly pithy and yet elegant.
