Info

The Morillon is bottled under the Südsteiermark appellation. The vines are planted on shell limestone and limestone marl in various sites owned by the Tement family. The age of the vines varies between 10 and 40 years.

2022 began dry and showed very little precipitation in winter. Vegetation slowly begins at the end of April. At the end of May, the weather changes from dry to warm and humid. The vineyard recorded a total of 40 rain showers by mid-July. Ventilation and reducing the foliage are the key issues during this phase.

2022 was the shortest harvest ever for the Tement family. All the grapes were harvested from 12 September to just 24 September. Rather low yields, but excellent qualities characterise 2022.

Like almost all of the estate's wines, this one ferments spontaneously and then matures for 15 months on the fine lees in large, neutral oak barrels. It is bottled without filtration.

Bright lemon yellow with green reflections

Nose

The Morillon from Muschelkalk has a pure, purist and clear fragrance. Lemon balm, sorrel and lemon thyme emanate from the glass. Delicate hints of its long contact with the yeast can be recognised. A fine, smoky aura surrounds it. Clearly cold smoke. Some sea spray and a noticeable sea breeze support these impressions. It has a strong character and yet is very accessible. Some fresh pineapple, but above all Nashi pear and lime characterise its fruit. Roasted coriander and fennel seeds give it depth.

Palate

It clearly transfers these clear, precise flavours to the palate. Clear and cool like a mountain stream. The herbal flavours and spicy components are loudly represented. It is racy and the fruit is also tart to refreshing, but with plenty of depth. Always built on the mineral framework that surrounds it. A salty touch adds a lot of pressure at the back. It is reminiscent of salt marshes and the proximity to the sea. Its very successful phenolic structure ensures density and a compact appearance. Completely weightless.
