Wine Description for Meursault Les Narvaux Élevage Prolongé AOC 2022 by Rémi Jobard

Character
Rémi Jobard, son of the legendary François Jobard, continues to run the small family estate with the same uncompromising philosophy that made his father famous. The designation „Élevage Prolongé“ – extended ageing – signals a deliberate choice here: this Meursault was allowed to mature longer on its lees, giving it additional complexity and texture. Les Narvaux, a Lieu-dit situated on the slope towards Puligny-Montrachet, produces wines that balance between the creamy fullness typical of Meursaults and a certain stony freshness.
Terroir & Origin
Les Narvaux lies in the southern part of Meursault, where the soils contain a higher proportion of limestone. This geological composition imparts a mineral tension to the wines, distinguishing them from the more opulent sites such as Perrières or Genevrières. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by heat and drought, which produced concentrated, ripe grapes at moderate alcohol levels – a vintage that demanded precision.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay shows perhaps its most opulent face in Meursault: nutty, buttery, with aromas of ripe pears, hazelnut and brioche. Jobard’s approach is restrained and non-interventionist – minimal new oak, instead patient waiting. The extended ageing on fine lees (Bâtonnage) gives the wine that silky texture and depth without masking the fruit. At 13% alcohol, the wine remains elegant and approachable, far removed from over-extracted heaviness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Meursault calls for classic Burgundian cuisine: Poulet de Bresse à la crème, lobster with butter, scallops or a mature Comté. It also reveals its full character with turbot with morels or risotto with white truffle. The combination of creaminess and mineral freshness makes it a versatile companion to rich, yet not overly heavy dishes.
