Wine information
The Pinot Noir fruit comes from the Les Poutures site in Pommard. The 1er Cru is located just south of Les Rugiens near the village and is characterised by limestone, clay and loam in a fairly humus-rich soil layer. The wine was made in the typical style of the Lejeune Each vat was filled to about 30 % with whole grapes. These were crushed with the feet to release enough juice to start the alcoholic fermentation, which is triggered by the action of natural yeasts found in the atmosphere of the cellar and on the grape skins at harvest time. The whole grapes then lie on top of the mash. This phase of alcoholic fermentation lasts five to seven days and is called semi-carbonic maceration because many berries ferment whole rather than as pulp. The entire fermentation lasts around three weeks. The wine is then put into wooden barrels with a new wood content of around 30 %. Before filling, it is lightly sulphurised but not filtered or fined.
Color
radiant slightly transparent cherry red
Nose
The Les Poutures shows an accessible, but at the beginning quite restrained nose of red flowers and a slightly wintry flavoured red fruit jelly, some tanned leather and earth, tobacco, pepper and slightly balsamic hints. This is underpinned by elegant wood and a little vanilla.
Palate
On the palate the 1er Cru an attractive extract with a fine sweetness that combines with the notes of red berries and ripe cherries. Here, too, the wood presents the accessory of tobacco, leather, spices and vanilla. The tannins are present, but buttery soft. Nevertheless, the wine has a lot of structure, appears compact and firm, but is sensual and charming in its fruit, which is supported by the Pommard typical earthiness.
