Info

The Langhe Nebbiolo comes from the Cru vineyard Basarin at 370 meters above sea level. The historic vineyard is located on the border of the municipalities of Neive and Treiso. Since the vines are still very young, with an age of around 15 years, the wine is produced by the Barbaresco to the Langhe Nebbiolo downgraded. After spontaneous fermentation, the fermentation lasts about 25 days. The acid reduction and the maturation happens in barrels of François Frères. The Nebbiolo ages for 16 months in barrels that are 15 % new and 85 % up to four years old. The wine is bottled without further filtering or fining.

Nose

Welcome to the Langhe, the core region of Piedmont. And to be quite precise, this is a Barbaresco at 100%. Andrea Sottimano deliberately downgrades this wine from the younger vineyards to a Langhe Nebbiolo. Bottled purely from the grape variety and processed with the same meticulousness and care as the crus from Barbaresco.
Morello cherries, strawberries and ripe sour cherries spread in the glass. Accompanied by some forest floor and juniper. After intense swirling, some pepper is added. The nose shows a deep and cool impression. The earthy impression captivates me. The wines are not sulphured until racking off the lees. This fine reduction makes the wine seem incredibly clear and elegant.

Palate

This is simply a lot of Piedmont in the glass. And that for a relatively small price. I would not serve this Nebbiolo too warm. 14-16°C. You can feel Andrea Sottimano's fascination for the wines of the Côte d'Or. A very fine-grained tannin. By Piedmont standards, this is a maverick in terms of tannin. This cool, chalky impression is confirmed. The fine berry fruit is wonderfully drawn out by the perfectly integrated acid structure. Ripe strawberry is mouth filling. A real purist. Dry on the palate. This is where the fine tannin comes into its own. Minerality and tannin alternate. Very clear finish. Blessed with a good storage potential, I can only recommend this wine to everyone.
