Color:
Bright straw yellow, radiant and clear.
Nose:
The 2017 Freudshofer Leithaberg DAC from Anita and Hans Nittnaus tells of citrus fruits, stone fruits as well as mineral and vegetal notes with a certain diction but without loquacity. In doing so, it outlines an arc of tension from fruit to terroir, from juicy to tart. Grapefruit and lemon oil alternate with green banana and oyster shell until a piece of wet chalk draws a line under the bill.
Mouth:
The Chardonnay from the extremely chalky top vineyard in Jois am Leithagebirge is taut with a powerful thrust and a good punch on the palate. Full-bodied, focused and straightforward, it knows only one direction of flow: down the Zecher's gullet. The fruit floats ethereally on the palate, it is crisply dry with a powerful mineral bass and is flanked by the ripe, integrated acidity and delicate tannins that adorn it like Admiral stripes on the lapel.
Food recommendations by Sebastian Bordthäuser:
- Grilled peaches with chili and sage with burrata
(Cheese, Fruit & Nuts)
- Confit Lotte with medlars and sage in cucumber stock
(Fish)
- Veal fricassee with oyster mushrooms in light tarragon sauce
(MeatMushrooms and truffles)
