Information about wine
The Idig site is the core of the Christmann winery. First mentioned in the 14th century, it is still an undivided, four-hectare monopollage. The slope falls steeply to the south-southeast and is characterized by a massive limestone subsoil as well as a terra fusca limestone scree layer with red sandstone scree and basalt. The Idig can certainly be counted among the few Grand Cru sites that Germany has to offer. The Riesling was harvested in November completely free of botrytis. It was left on the mash for up to six hours, fermented spontaneously and, like all Christmann wines, fermented down to two grams of residual sugar and aged in large double barrels.

Nose
You can tell some wines are big the first time you breathe them in. At 2018s Idig one senses the puristic bareness, the stony, chalky note and the light cream that lies over it like a silk cloth. It is the interplay of pome fruit and herbal spice, this firm bond, this calmness, in which all the power is bundled and which one can recognize without a doubt already in the fragrance. Ripe stone fruit is added, a little citrus, flowers, herbs, rocks - everything fine and well proportioned.
Palate
On the palate the Idig so fine, so pure, so tartly juicy and tonic, as one can only wish for. There is an interplay of fine tannin texture and lively acidity, a potpourri of grapefruit, stone fruit and above all an intense salty minerality. Now this is not expansive, but straight, pure and firm. But already now that the Idig still purring very slowly in the lower rev range with the handbrake on, as it were, this is already a great wine, but it will become even greater.
