Haardt Hills

Gregory Emmel, founder of Haardt Hills

He came to the Palatinate for love. Haardt Hills stands for alcohol-free premium wines with real character: clear, precise, uncompromising.

Gregory Emmel founded the label in Gimmeldingen, at the foot of the Haardt Mountains. His wines are made from grapes from family-run vineyards in the Mittelhaardt region. Membrane technology combined with vacuum distillation gently extracts the alcohol - flavour and structure are retained.

Riesling, Chardonnay (90 Pigott points) and rosé: wines for clear moments of pleasure.

More about Haardt Hills

When you hear the name, you think of hills - and you're not wrong. The Haardt is the mountain range on the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest, the foothills of which run through the best vineyards in the Palatinate. Gregory Emmel made this name his programme: wines with origin, depth and precision - just without alcohol.

The man from Munich who married into the Palatinate

The story sounds like a romance and rows of vines: Gregory Emmel left Munich to settle down in Gimmeldingen - in the heart of the Mittelhaardt region, surrounded by vineyards that have been a favourite destination for centuries. Riesling produce. His partner comes from one of the most important winegrowing families in the region. Eight generations of viticulture characterise the environment in which Haardt Hills was created. The biodynamic Christmann Winery, just a few kilometres away, shows what level the region can reach.

Gregory himself does not come from a winemaking background - and that is precisely what makes his view unbiased. He recognised early on that the technology for high-quality non-alcoholic wine had long existed. What was missing was someone who could consistently combine it with quality grapes.

Membrane technology meets Mittelhaardt terroir

The dealcoholisation process at Haardt Hills combines Membrane filtration with gentle vacuum distillation. Alcohol molecules are separated at low temperatures without destroying the volatile flavourings. The result doesn't taste like juice or a substitute - it tastes like what it is: wine minus alcohol.

The grapes come from partner businesses in the immediate vicinity. Families who have tended their vineyards for generations and Sustainable management practise. The red sandstone soils of the Haardt, the mild climate with over 1,800 hours of sunshine and the protective flank of the Palatinate Forest create ideal conditions for aromatic, structured grapes.

Three wines, one promise

The range is deliberately focussed: three grape varieties, three characters.

The Riesling 2024 shows classic Palatinate minerality - citrus, peach and a Touch of wet limestone. The acidity remains precise, the finish is long. Anyone who knows good German Riesling will recognise it.

The Chardonnay 2024 surprised even Stuart Pigott: 90 points was awarded by the wine critic. Yellow apple, ripe pear, a hint of exoticism - and a creamy texture reminiscent of Burgundy.

The Rosé 2024 brings strawberry and red berries to the glass, animating and summery fresh. A wine for an afternoon in the garden or a business lunch where clarity counts.

Vineyards on the Haardt in the Palatinate

Home is where the Haardt is

The winery's slogan plays with ambiguity - Haardt sounds like „heart“, and that's exactly what it's all about: Wines with heart and soul and a sense of home. Gregory Emmel does not see alcohol-free wine as a compromise or alternative, but as a category in its own right. For all those who want to enjoy it clearly - whether out of conviction, as a driver or simply because the moment demands it.

The Haardt Hills wines prove it: Character does not need alcohol. It needs good grapes, careful processing and someone who knows what is important.
