Weinberghof Fritsch is one of the lighthouse wineries in Wagramer. The approximately 25 hectares of vines are cultivated exclusively according to biodynamic guidelines to ensure the greatest possible expression of terroir and origin. The Wagram is the longest elevation in Austria and is strongly characterised by loess, which predestines it as an origin for first-class Grüner Veltliner. Karl Fritsch is a member of the winegrowers' association Respekt biodyn.

The Grüner Veltliner Ried Steinberg comes from the steep vineyard of the same name with soils of slate and granite. The vines come from 13- to 63-year-old vines that stand on a southeastern exposure at 240 metres above sea level. The wines are harvested exclusively by hand and then fermented spontaneously in stainless steel for four to eight months.

Color

Straw yellow with bright reflections and a silver tapered rim.

Nose

The 2021 Ried Steinberg Grüner Veltliner nose from Weingut Fritsch is as intense as it is multifaceted. The nose radiates chubby, ripe red apples, underpinned by white peach and the white mesocarp of citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges. In the top note, white pepper ties in with the citrus notes and is complemented by cedar and vetiver, all firmly encased in the omnipresent ripe fruit.

Mouth

On the palate, it is clear as a bell with a firm structure and medium body. Juicy and powerful, it confidently occupies the entire mouth and is fuelled by the ripe, gently pulsating acidity, which makes it shine like a fanfare on the palate. Tartly contoured, the fruit gets the right polish, the delicate phenolic provides the adequate structural framing.
