Wine Description for Gewürztraminer Clos Windsbuhl 2022 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, intense golden yellow – a colour depth that already announces the aromatic complexity of this extraordinary Gewürztraminer.
Nose
Captivating and multifaceted, a fragrance spectrum of remarkable finesse unfolds. Orange granita and salted lemon meet rosemary, verbena and candied ginger. To these are added cinnamon and dried rose petals – an aromatic composition that captivates through its mineral freshness and elegantly navigates away from every exotic cliché of Gewürztraminer.
Palate
Here the true class of this wine reveals itself: cool, invigorating, with a delicate sweetness that combines perfectly with bitter notes of orange zest and grapefruit. The mid-palate presents itself as saline and mineral – a signature of the lime-rich Muschelkalk terroir. The texture is featherlight, almost dance-like, with a precision that can only emerge from great vineyard sites.
Finish
Endless, elegant and suffused with a freshness that tempts you to take the next sip. The mineral tension carries through to the finale and leaves an impression of depth and complexity.
Terroir & Origin
The Clos Windsbuhl lies above Hunawihr at 300-350 metres altitude, near woodland. The steep slope on Muschelkalk from the Triassic period fundamentally shapes the wines through its magnesium and lime richness. The altitude ensured perfect ripening conditions in 2022 and cooled the warmth of the vintage.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Gewürztraminer from old, low-vigour vines with minimal soil cover, harvested in perfect health in 2022. The wine matured to classical sweet balance – 13% alcohol with moderate residual sweetness.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Chicory and spiced carrot in yuzu-kimchi broth with nashi pear, rainbow trout with dried elderflowers or langoustine tempura with tom yam broth and miso aubergine. The wine demands equally artful, aromatic dishes with saline-sweet contrasts.
Special Features
A masterpiece that is already accessible now, yet possesses magnificent ageing potential. Recommendation: decant at least a day in advance, enjoy from large Burgundy glasses at moderate temperature.
