Wine profile
Brought forth by Olivier Humbrecht, Clos Windsbuhl offers a picturesque setting as it sits above the charming village of Hunawihr. The positioning at an altitude of 300/350 metres near the Vosges forest and the orientation of this vineyard from east to south contribute to the late ripening of the vines. The nature of this "windy hill" is also remarkable, perched on an ancient limestone rock, the "shell limestone" from the Triassic period. The magnesium-rich, calcareous rock exerts a strong influence on the vines, which is also reflected in the wines.
Expansion information
Growing Gewürztraminer in such an environment can be demanding. But the reward of a late harvest each year is a harmoniously balanced sweetness that sets this wine apart. The 2020 represents a classic Gewürztraminer, shaped by this exceptional vineyard.
Visual perception
A radiant, intense golden yellow.
Fragrance profile
The 2020 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl presents itself as a seductive and elegant wine. Its bouquet reveals green figs and pink pepper, alongside a profound minerality layered with a hint of saltiness. Undertones of pear cream, apple, white chocolate, fresh ginger and lime zest blend into a perfectly balanced ensemble.
Taste experience
Tasting this Gewürztraminer is a voyage of discovery: A salty nuance, distinct sweetness and a fine tannin give this wine a special freshness and liveliness. The balance between saltiness and sweetness is exceptionally well matched. It is a remarkable long-distance runner that already promises an absolute taste experience and will gain in brilliance over the years. This Gewürztraminer is a testimony to pure elegance and a pure delight to the palate! For impatient connoisseurs, it is advisable to decant the wine at least one day in advance and to serve it not too cold and from a large Burgundy glass.
Alternatives to the food recommendations
Clos Windsbuhl is perfect with a tarte tatin of caramelised fennel and orange, lobster in vanilla foam with wild rice and mint, or slow braised pork belly with figs, pomegranate and saffron couscous.
