Info

The VDP. Große Lage Enselberg vineyard in Jechtigen is characterised by lighter and darker elements of volcanic rock. The loess layer on top provides the necessary drainage as well as sufficient nitrogen supply. The site is exposed to the wind and faces west. From there you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Rhine plain. The Enselberg consists of two plots that were planted in 1999 and 2003 from Burgundian clones.

All Pinot Noirs at Weingut Franz Keller are matured in barriques. For the Erste Lage Oberbergen Bassgeige, the proportion of new wood is low at 10-20%, but even in the GG range this rarely exceeds 35%. The Pinot Noir matures in the barrels for 18 months.

Nose

The Enselberg Spätburgunder GG shines and sings breathtakingly beautifully from the glass. Spicy, fruity and elegantly cooling at the same time. It shows its origins with compact sweet cherry fruit that is wonderfully flanked by sour cherry and raspberry. The background is dark and mysterious. Morello cherry, plum, but also a hint of sloe swirl around. Beetroot, red pepper and juniper provide me with earthiness and spice. Hints of cedar wood and moss follow in exactly the same vein. A fine ethereal spiciness rounds it off.

Palate

On the palate, the Enselberg is delicate and filigree. It floats above you like an angel. Literally intangible, as it appears light-footed and restrained. Its fruit now comes to life with raspberry and sour cherry. The acidity dominates the fruit very skilfully. Bright, silky and long-lasting. Its spiciness blends in harmoniously. The ethereal and earthy nuances slowly but surely gain the upper hand. Very subtle, never loud and characterised by an incredible length.
