Info

All Pinot Noirs at Weingut Franz Keller are matured in barriques. The proportion of new wood in the Achkarren local wine is low, but even in the GG range this proportion never exceeds 35%. The Pinot Noir matures in the barrels for 18 months.

Achkarren Pinot Noir is a marriage of the VDP. Große Lage Achkarren Schlossberg and the Castellberg vineyard. Tephrite, black earth and loess are found in the subsoil.

Tephrite is an alkaline, basaltic rock. This effusive rock is usually found in volcanic regions and can range from fine crystalline to porphyritic.

Nose

The fruit of the 2021 Achkarren Pinot Noir from Franz Keller is brilliant and pure. It presents us with sour cherry, raspberry and some blueberry in full measure. Dried figs and cranberry go very well with it and give it depth. Cardamom and black pepper are faint in the background, but play an important role. It thrives on fine herbal flavours. Savory, marjoram and sage provide it with freshness. Pine needles and cones and a little cinnamon are only subtly present.

Palate

It continues this interplay seamlessly on the palate. Full, cool finesse and characterised by its piquant acidity structure, the aromas run along the red thread. The sour cherry and crisp raspberry flavours are prominent. Its mouthfeel is extremely silky and incredibly elegant. A fine sharpness slowly builds up, which the fruit does not have much to counteract. This is very animating. The cold year 2021 comes through very well here. The dried fruit is restrained and well-measured. The herbal freshness breathes energy and length into it.
