Wine information
The Steinsatz is an old Pinot Noir vineyard in Rauenberg in Kraichgau. The soil formation belongs to the Keuper and is characterised by a combination of red claystone with limestone, which occurs as dolomite stone. The soil is extremely stony and rich in pebbles. The hard dolomite stone weathers very slowly, while the layers of clay it contains are extremely rich in minerals and ensure a good supply of nutrients for the vines. The 2020 vintage was fermented to 100% from whole bunches. The grapes were briefly foot-crushed in small wooden vats and fermented on the skins for around three weeks with moderate pigeage. The country wine was then pressed on an old basket press. The wine was drawn off via the broquereau using gravity pressure. The wine was matured exclusively in used wooden barrels, mainly in barriques and pièces. No yeasts, no enzymes, no fining and no filtration were used. Depending on the vintage, a maximum of 30 mg sulphur was added.

Color
Garnet red colour, black core with violet inclusions.

Nose
On the nose, the 2020 Steinsatz shows depth and a juicy, compact structure. Dark blackberries, cassis, plums, smoky notes, leather and tobacco are reminiscent of the Côte de Nuits. At the same time, spicy notes of cinnamon and clove are noticeable. A juicy and finesse-rich attack that is already charming and inviting on the nose.

Palate
On the palate, it beguiles with its juicy and dense character. Lots of dark fruit meets cool minerality, ripe yet youthful tannins and an invigorating acidity. A wonderful wine with juicy fruit that appreciates the accompaniment of intense cuisine. Very good ageing potential!

Decant and enjoy slightly chilled from Burgundy glasses.
