Wine information
Engelsfelsen is undoubtedly the most spectacular site in Forgeurac's portfolio. It is located in the uppermost part of the top Engelsfelsen site in the Bühlertal valley, which has not been cleared. This site is extremely steep and, at 75 degrees, is considered one of the steepest in Europe. From there, it stretches up into the Black Forest, from where cool air flows into the valley in the evening. As the vineyard faces south, there are considerable temperature differences between day and night, which explains the intense fruitiness of the wines. The scattered vineyards can only be reached via adventurously narrow paths. The soils consist of very lean and shallow granite layers. Depending on the vintage, the grapes were either partially destemmed or fermented as whole bunches. They were briefly crushed by foot in small wooden vats and fermented on the skins for around three weeks with moderate pigeage. The country wine was then pressed on an old basket press. The wine was drawn off via the broquereau using gravity pressure. Maturation took place exclusively in used wooden barrels, mainly barriques and pièces. No yeasts, no enzymes, no fining and no filtration were used. Depending on the vintage, a maximum of 30 mg sulphur was added.
