Info
Finca Valderoble is a single vineyard in the highlands of Sotillo de la Ribera at 930m N.N.. The cuvée is based on 75% Tinto Fino and 25% Merlot. The limestone is quite exposed here, so that the vines meet the limestone directly with only a small clay layer, and many fragments of the rock are freely visible in the vineyard. The plateau was used as a landing strip for small aircraft as late as the 1980s. In the cellar, work is done only by gravity. Fermentation takes place using natural yeasts in concrete tanks. The wine is aged for 18 months in 500l oak barrels.
The year 2020 started with a dry and very cold winter - typical for the region. There was a regular supply of rainfall in April, May and June. The summer did not turn out to be particularly hot during the course of the year.
Color
Dark luminous chimney red with delicate violet inclusions
Nose
2020 Finca Valderoble lets its altitude of 930m hang out clearly. The dark fruit does not seem clumsy, ripe or warm at all. Quite the opposite. Rather, it radiates a coolness and freshness that is unparalleled. Morello cherry, sweet cherry, blackberry and elderberry are found in a crisp, fresh state - just before ripeness, but wonderfully animating to enjoy. A hint of coffee and cocoa butter provide balsamic spice. Juniper and black pepper set fine, spicy accents. A little cedar wood and dark tobacco leaves come through delicately. A hint of eucalyptus provides additional freshness on the finish.
Palate
On the palate, it completes these thoughts and associations. Wonderfully cool and juicily animating, it flows over the palate, absolutely silky, almost velvety. An enormously fine-grained tannin provides it with a solid framework. The acidity is not neglected and stabilises the wine. In combination, this makes for a very elegant drinking flow. Full of elegance and without alcoholic extract sweetness, despite its 14.5 vol. %. The fruit now comes across even brighter. The spicy aromas also appear only in a faint form. A hint of undergrowth as well as the fine hint of eucalyptus again provide an elegant final moment in the reverberation.
