The winery of Steffen Mugler

Steffen Mugler is an uncomplicated, fun-loving, entertaining Palatinate native who is always in a good mood. At the same time, he is strongly connected to his home and the Palatinate landscape. He comes from a renowned winery in the Mittelhaardt region, but has found his wine home with his wife Daniela in Maikammer on the Southern Wine Route. Since 2002, they have been managing the Manfred Schädler wine estate in Maikammer and cultivate its vineyards. They have carefully modernized the winery and converted the viticulture to biodynamic cultivation. This is noticeable. The wines become more expressive, more complex and more lively from year to year. Steffen's credo "The guiding principle in everything we do in the vineyard and cellar is to live in harmony with nature and to promote it to the best of our ability."

Vinaturel

-Collection Steffen Mugler

With the 2016 vintage, we launched a wine together with Steffen for the first time. Since that time, we have had the opportunity to create very individual, finely tuned Vinaturel-to create wines with him. The collection is rounded off by specially designed labels, which reflect the combination of Vinaturel with the winegrower and his vineyard. The XVIII-3 is a cuvée of Pinot noir, Merlot and Pinot Meunier. The grape varieties were fermented separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel, cuvéed and then aged in large wooden barrels, where the biological acid degradation took place. About 20 % of the cuvée were then aged in used barrique.

Color

quite dense ruby red

Nose

In the nose the Cuvée XVIII-3 Young and fresh with many red and dark berry notes. The fruit is accompanied by yeast, a breath of tar and undergrowth. The composition seems mature and yet is pleasantly cool in its aromatics, fruit-driven and uncomplicated, but still quite serious and full of character.

Mouth

On the palate the Cuvée XVIII-3what it has already promised in the fragrance. There are red and dark fruit notes, where especially the sour cherries stand out and provide together with the acidity for much freshness on the palate. But there are also more sedate fruits in there like a bit of plum and blackberry. Again, the slightly yeasty but also tart spice that was prevalent on the nose is noticeable. The tannin is polished round, the wine also pleasantly cool and juicy on the palate.
