Wine Description for Cuvée Irizée Meunier Extra Brut 2014 by Régis Poissinet

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, pale golden yellow with a fine, precise mousse – the perlage rises evenly and elegantly. A Champagne that already radiates seriousness in the glass.
Nose
The nose is seductive and complex: baked apples and ripe stone fruits meet the exotic freshness of kumquats. Beneath lies a velvety layer of quince with bloom, beeswax and pastry notes – white nougat and freshly baked almond croissants. The oak ageing whispers; it does not shout.
Palate
On the palate, a remarkable tension unfolds between opulence and precision. Juicy fullness, a lively, agile acidity and a fine salinity lend the wine energy and depth. The typical „rondeur“ of Meunier – that soft, inviting roundness – is clearly perceptible, yet held in check by a cool, mineral austerity. Not a gram of excess fat.
Finish
Long, balanced and restrained in power. The finale surprises with an elegant hint of mint – cool, clear and remarkably refreshing. A finish that invites contemplation.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from vineyard sites on the threshold between the Marne Valley and Montagne de Reims – Cuchery, Baslieux, Leuvrigny, Troissy and Mareuil-le-Port. The chalky clay and alluvial soils of this transition zone give the wine its characteristic combination of mineral tautness and fruity depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A single-varietal Pinot Meunier from the 2014 vintage – a statement for a grape variety that in Champagne is all too often underestimated as a blending partner. Full ageing in oak barrels, hand-riddling and a minimal dosage of 2.3 g/l (disgorged 5 July 2022) underscore Régis Poissinet’s artisanal ambition.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with grilled lobster with butter sauce, sweetbreads or a classic Poulet de Bresse. Also a formidable choice with aged Comté or white truffle. For the adventurous, serve it simply on its own – as a meditation in a glass.
Special Features
Régis Poissinet ranks among the most exciting Récoltant-Manipulant growers in Champagne. His consistent focus on single varietals and terroir expression – far removed from the grand houses – makes this cuvée a Champagne with genuine character and conviction. The name „Irizée“ (shimmering, iridescent) is programme.
