Wine Description for Clos Vougeot Grand Cru AOC 2020 by Charlopin Tissier

Colour & Appearance
A deep, almost opaque purple-red presents itself in the glass – powerful and concentrated, as one expects from a Grand Cru of this provenance.
Nose
This Clos Vougeot demands patience and air. With time, a captivating aromatics unfolds: wild strawberries, raspberries and morello cherries meld with malt, liquorice and clove. To these are added undergrowth, damp foliage and the noble signature of first-class new oak from François Frères. A complex, multi-layered nose that demands time to breathe.
Palate
On the palate, youthful exuberance pairs with impressive tension. The firm phenolics are balanced by ripe extract sweetness, whilst bitter and mineral notes lend depth. The wine appears powerful and firmly structured, yet already shows hints of suppleness. The dark aromatics continue, the acidity is perfectly integrated. The high proportion of new oak at 75-100% is still present for now, but will integrate harmoniously – the foundations for this are already evident.
Finish
Long, firm and with sustained fruit concentration. The mineral component lingers and underscores the ageing potential of this Grand Cru.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the legendary Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, one of Burgundy’s most celebrated vineyard sites. This historic terroir produces wines of extraordinary complexity and longevity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, destemmed and spontaneously fermented following cool pre-fermentation. Maturation takes place over 18 months in 228-litre barriques, predominantly from François Frères, with an ambitious proportion of new oak at 75-100%. Slow ageing on fine lees.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Grilled Bresse chicken with liver pâté and wild herb salad, capon stuffed with porcini mushrooms or beef hip tataki with cassis-shoyu marinade harmonise beautifully with the power and elegance of this wine.
Special Characteristics
A Grand Cru that demands and deserves time. Charlopin-Tissier vinifies here one of the most patient wines in its portfolio – a Burgundy for connoisseurs with cellar capacity and a long-term perspective.
