Wine information
The 2017 Pibarnon Bandol Rouge is a cuvée of 90 % Mourvèdre and 10 % Grenache. The vines are planted in an "amphitheatre" facing the sea on Triassic clay, limestone and chalk. For this vin de guard only the best and oldest vines at a medium altitude of 250 metres are used. Fermentation takes about three weeks. Afterwards, the wines are aged plot by plot in matching barriques, tonneaux and barrels of different provenance for 20 months.
Color
Deep violet red with purple reflections.
Nose
The 2017 Château de Pibarnon Rouge is deep and intense, with dark blackberries, blackcurrants, prune, elderberry and elder wood on the nose. Juniper, clove, truffle and pepper follow, with aromas of vineyard peach and orange, as well as violets. It wraps up wonderfully with its fulminant and charming fragrance already in the nose.
Palate
Soft, full-bodied and dense, it flows over the tongue. Its tannins are extremely fine and of high quality, its acidity invigorating, the minerality cool, stony and incisive. A great classic from the fantastic Mourvèdre grape that can mature outstandingly. From the carafe or after a day of opening, it can already function as a congenial food companion.
