In addition, there is a layer of wood and spices, smoke and stone, as well as an acidity that provides a lot of drinking flow and a tonic aspect; for despite the elegantly staged wood and the ripe fruit, this is a vin de soif in the best sense, sophisticated yet uncomplicated, balanced and - a Burgundy in the best sense. The palate is characterised by a delicious melange of red and dark berries, cherries and this fresh, lively orange fruit.

Wine information

For this wine, Boris Champy used Pinot Noir from three different parcels, namely from En Bignon in Bouze, Le Beaune and Le Clou in Nantoux as well as Pierres percées in Saint-Romain. The soil of the parcels is partly characterized by red clay, partly by white clay with a high marl content. Some of the vineyards were planted as early as the 1980s with a vine density of over 10,000, some in Guyot, some in Lyra training. Boris Champy has destemmed the grapes to a large extent, thus, he uses only a small part of whole grapes, he has extracted gently, and he has vinified the wine over twelve months in barrels, however, a part of 15 % in new wood.

slightly transparent ruby red

Nose

With Boris Champy's Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude 2019 it quickly becomes clear how excellently the experienced winemaker handles his wood. This looks extremely elegant and already puts a big exclamation mark in the fragrance. Red-cheeked stone fruit, ripe cherries, plums and a hint of oranges meet oak and cedar wood as well as slightly earthy and stony notes.

Palate

The palate is marked by a delicious melange of red and dark berries, cherries and that fresh, vibrant orange fruit. Added to this is a layer of wood and spice, smoke and stone, and an acidity that makes for a lot of drinkability and a tonic aspect; for despite the elegantly staged wood and ripe fruit, this is in the best sense a vin de soif, demanding and yet uncomplicated, balanced and - a Burgundy in the best sense.
