Wine information
The Pinot noir comes from the premier cru vineyard Aux Fournaux in Savigny-lès-Beaune. The municipality is located about six kilometers northwest of Beaune and, with 383 hectares, has one of the most extensive areas in this region. In the premier cru site Aux Fournaux, the domaine owns 1.68 hectares facing east. It was planted in 1956 after the big frost. The soil is clayey and deep. In the upper part of the plot, there is also lime in the topsoil.
Color
medium cherry-red
Nose
The loamy and deep soil of the premier cru site Aux Fournaux shows itself in this 2017 Pinot in a warm and soft impression and the almost sweet aroma of ripe bruised wild berries and sweet cherries. In this respect, it is similar to the wine from the neighboring Les Lavières vineyard, but currently seems a little more open, spicy and perfumed with a delicate hint of flowers and a dash more of fine wood spice.
Mouth
Although still so young, this Premier Cru appears inviting, open and coherent from the first moment with its juiciness, silky tannin and soft dark fruit reminiscent of cherries and wild berries. The Aux Fournaux is fine and elegant as well as having a bell-clear acid structure and a timbre of oak and underbrush that is, as always, restrained yet also clear. Here ripe fruit meets fine spice as well as an elegant velvety texture and a long finish. This is a Savigny of great class.
