Wine informatics
As part of a reorganisation of the range, the Vogelsang is the latest addition to the Grosse Gewächse and has taken the place of the Reiterpfad Hofstück. The Christmann family has created something very special with the help of the Hofstück and other plots: the Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad Erstes Gewächs. The character of this wine is shaped by clay and bunt sandstone gravel. The grapes are harvested rather early, selected, destemmed and then fermented spontaneously at high temperatures and matured in double pieces.

Scent
The Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad owes its warmth to its location within the winery. In the favourably cool year of 2021, in which the GGs seem rather robust and unfathomable, the Reiterpfad proves to be an almost recreationally accessible wine, characterised by a more lush and yellowish fruitiness. One discovers notes of nectarines and peaches, red apples and some kumquat, including peel, and an impression of dried herbs and stone.

Taste
On the palate, the Riesling presents itself juicy and delicate. It starts with a creamy texture, followed by a lively wave of grapefruit peel abrasion, salt and stone. The red sandstone gives it a deep minerality and warmth of fruit. Despite all this complexity, the wine comes across as precise, fine and delicate. A first growth of very special quality!

Recommended dishes: Fennel risotto with Norway lobster, pancetta with salt lemon, peas and scamorza and Brussels sprouts with smoked tofu and kimchi puree.

Alternative food recommendations: Scallops on fennel puree, crispy bacon and lemon butter sauce, smoked salmon with green peas, Scandinavian cheese board and roasted Brussels sprouts with grilled tofu and chilli aioli.
