Nose
The 2016 Zellerweg am Schwarzen Herrgott Riesling Großes Gewächs from Battenfeld-Spanier is idiosyncratic on the nose. The aromatics are distinctly azure Like a maritime breeze in the Cyclades blowing through white curtains, it is iodine-saline, yet airy with spicy accents. There's a bowl of fruit somewhere. It is difficult to break it into aromatic parts, it is too ethereal and closed, so please pour it upside down into the carafe, shake it vigorously and wait at least half a day.
Mouth
Substantial on the nose, the palate is not long negotiated. Closed and compact, the rich extract and the contouring phenolic unite, framed by the perfectly ripe acidity. With pulsating pressure on the mid palate, it builds tremendous density and shows aromatically complex. Salt and bitterness envelop the firm fruit core and overtake with turn signal left into a long, cool finish.
