Wine information
Most of the vineyards on the edge of the Haard in the transition from the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest face east. However, the Siebeldinger vineyard of the same name in the Queich valley is in the sunshine; because it is exposed to the south. The vineyard is situated at 160 to 250 meters and has a slope of 5 to 20 %. The Riesling stands on shell limestone soil from the Triassic. The wine was vinified after destemming and a 24-hour maceration period. After pre-clarification and natural sedimentation, fermentation took place in stainless steel, followed by six months of ageing on the fine lees.
Color
medium straw yellow
Nose
A very slight hovering sweetness of ripe fruit lies over the Riesling In the sunshine. The 2018s Grosse Gewächs shows a finely chiselled melange of white flowers, freshly mown hay, pears and Cape gooseberries, underpinned with notes of ripe citrus, subtle stony spice and hints of cool stone and mint.
Mouth
On the palate, the wine is juicy and bright with lots of acidity and grip on the palate. There is so much freshness, so much energy from the shell limestone soil that the minerality acts like a block battery on the tip of the tongue. In addition, you can find in the Riesling In the sunshine a wonderful fragrant herbiness and spiciness, something salty spicy and in addition a light texture of the tannin. This is successful all around.
