Wine information
A magnificent portfolio of vineyards around the wine village of Hallgarten forms the basis for the Rhine Slate. At about 180 to 250 metres above sea level, the vineyards, interspersed with Devonian slate and quartzite, swing up to the Taunus in increasingly steep vineyards. The grapes for this Riesling come from the Hallgartener Hendelberg, Jungfer, Schönhell and Würzgarten sites. Due to the cooler climate, the grapes ripen slower and longer than in the valley, which gives them a wonderfully fine and clear aroma.
Information on the expansion
100 % Hand harvest, gentle whole cluster pressing, spontaneous fermentation with the natural yeasts, ageing on the full lees in large wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks. Bottled in August 2020.
Color
Sparkling golden yellow.
Nose
The 2019 Riesling Rheinschiefer immediately conveys the distinctive slate tone on the nose. Juicy and densely interwoven, aromas of green apple, citrus, grapefruit and vineyard peach emerge. The intense fruity aroma is accompanied by an equally intense scent of lemon balm, ginger, elderberry pulp and elderflower. Smoky notes are delicately hinted at.
Palate
On the tongue, it appears dance-like and seduces with a stimulating play of fruit and acidity and a dense and gripping minerality. A fantastic Riesling with a great price-pleasure ratio.
