The estate wine called Eisquell is the winery's calling card and consists of a selection of Riesling grapes from the chalky steep slopes of the Wonnegau around Hohen-Sülzen and the Zellertal. Hand-picked, followed by a new selection at the sorting table, the Eisbach is fermented spontaneously, matured in large old Doppelstück barrels as well as in stainless steel and left on the yeast until spring.
Color
Bright straw yellow, bright and clear.
Nose
The youthful nose of the 2020 Eisbach Riesling from Battenfeld-Spanier is still somewhat marked by the fermentation carbonic acid and therefore needs a good shake. Then notes of stone fruit, white peach, yellow plums and mirabelles clearly emerge. Spicy flanked by kitchen herbs such as fresh chervil, it is underpinned by slightly salty notes.
Mouth
On the nose, the youthful juicy fruit is accompanied by distinctive minerality. Puristic and clear, it is precisely crafted on the palate and combines fruit, minerality and feel to create a fast-paced drinking pleasure, fuelled by the ripe and animating acidic nerve that accompanies it into the fruity-fresh and ethereally cool finish.
