Color
A bright yellow with a green accent.
Nose
The 2018 Niersteiner Riesling Kabinett opens initiatively with noticeable flinty notes and spontaneous fermentation markers. With increased oxygen access, an enchanting bouquet unfolds with citrus fruits, green apple and lime peel, filled with intense slate tones. An extremely stimulating sip, which radiates an incredible hospitality already upon smelling.
Palate
On the palate, the wine displays an extremely harmonious symbiosis of sweetness and acidity. With this example, Kai Schätzel has mastered the challenge of combining complexity with carefree drinking pleasure. This is further emphasised by the lean alcohol content of 8 vol%. The bottle is hardly opened before it is already empty - my appreciation!
Food recommendations
Enjoy it with mature goat cheese on sour-sweet carrots with a touch of coriander or a spicy lemongrass soup with shrimps and rice balls on the side. It's also excellent with a spicy beef salad sweetened with ginger, hoisin and soy sauce. For a heartier alternative, it can also be served with lamb chops with rosemary or a roasted gilthead with olives and citrus. It also provides a sophisticated complement to pasta with prawns and chilli for an inventive dinner.
