Wine information

The Bret brothers cultivate a plot of only 0.69 hectares in Climat En Chatenay in Puilly-Fuissé. It is located at an altitude of 250 metres and faces north-east. The Bret brothers share the site with the Comtes Lafon. Located below the Roche de Vergisson, the plot is characterised by reddish-brown clay on limestone. The vines are 55 years old. The grapes were harvested by hand on 25 September 2021. This was followed by whole bunch pressing and then spontaneous fermentation. Then the Chardonnay was aged for 17 months, first in used barrels and after the assemblage in neutral cuves. A 100-% malolactic fermentation took place. The wine was only lightly sulphurised before bottling. The total sulphur is 27 mg/l. The wine has a pH value of 3.16.

Nose

The Pouilly-Fuissé En Chatenay Cuvée Zen beautifully captures the typical clarity, freshness and citrusiness of the vintage. It is a Chardonnay that moves between lemons of salt, green pears, mussel shells and a little broom. There is also a slightly waxy note and some dry foliage along with some freshly shelled hazelnuts and almonds.

Palate

On the palate, the Chardonnay is highly mouthwatering with a mix of lemons, limes and salt, chalky and iodine notes, green herbs and some lemongrass. With power and bell-clear bright aromas, the wine fills the mouth space, presses itself against the palate, appears vibrantly mineral and immensely juicy into the long finish.
