Nose
2020 Matassa Rouge shows clear notes of reduction. At this stage, it is open and inviting. Blackberry explosion. Blackberry bushes and leaves in full intensity. Wild strawberries, blackcurrant and sweet cherries. The fruit still seems a bit lactic in parts. Liquorice, graphite and anise. Black olives, rosemary and pine set Mediterranean accents. Even though most of the attributes mentioned so far suggested a powerful, heavy red wine, the opposite is the case. Despite this emergence, it appears elegant, restrained and tends to be rather light.
Palate
As you would expect, it comes across as silky and taut on the palate. It has great aromatic depth without having to be dense or concentrated. Matassa Rouge is a long-distance runner, but also exudes charm in its youth. Elegant and polished. It seems much brighter now. One looks for tannin in vain. The acidity always sets peaks and takes away a little of the seriousness. The wine is lively, exhilarating and a pleasure to drink. Aniseed, sour cherries and the Mediterranean origin are noticeable in the finish.
