Wine information
For Jean-Louis Trapet, 2007 was the "most surprising year" ever. He had never experienced such a hot April, and nature was three weeks ahead until June. But then came bad weather, which lasted until the end of August. While all around harvesting started on September 1, from the first nice day, the Trapets waited until September 10 - and the good weather stayed with them. The grapes were harvested between 115 and 120 days after flowering. The vinification was done with about 20 % whole bunches.
Color
medium cherry red with light brick red rim
Nose
The 2007 Chambertin Grand Cru shows a downright cool and absolutely ravishing and complex nose of juicy Pinot fruit, currants in fresh form as well as jelly. Furthermore, one thinks to feel a little the stems and stalks - thus something green, which is, however, ripe. In addition, there are notes of damp forest soil, steaming earth, yes, of a forest that smells like a summer rain.
Palate
The palate combines the typical concentrated strength of the muscular Chambertin with a consummate lightness, with verve and still youthful-looking impetuosity. The cherry and wild strawberry fruit is ripe but infused with fine acidity, the tannin present and fine, the currant jelly is back and so is the forest floor. The acidity is clear and decisive, the minerality present, so that the wine builds up an enormous drinking flow. Everything fits together harmoniously, it is great wine.
