Wine information

The vines of the cabernet franc are 45 to 55 years old. The vines stand in loamy silty soil on sandstone as well as in red flint on tuffeau (limestone).
The yield is 40 hl/ha. The grapes were harvested by hand in 12-kilo crates. They were destemmed and fermented over 30 days with only infrequent pumping over. They were then aged for twelve months on the fine lees in Burgundian Pièces from five to seven years. The cuvée then matured again for half a year in the piece barrel.

Nose

The 2017 Cabernet Franc from Clau de Nell shows its origin from the first moment. This robust and down-to-earth Cabernet Franc can only be found in the Loire, especially when it is paired with complexity and elegance. There is a lot of black currant, but also cherry, blackberry and plum, tobacco and earth, undergrowth, a little graphite and also a little liquorice, which leads to a coherent overall composition.

Palate

On the palate, the impression of freshness is confirmed with a simultaneously ripe fruit. Blackberries and currants meet crushed stone, slightly damp forest soil and tobacco. This wine perfectly captures the character of elegance and down-to-earthness that is so incredibly charming for Loire Cabernets. Acidity forms the sinewy backbone of this wine, which appears silky and smooth in texture. At the same time, this is a Cabernet Franc full of energy and vitality.
