Wine information
The Le Jour is a Champagne from 100 % Pinot Meunier. The fruit comes from the Premier Cru single vineyard "Le Jour" in Vrigny. The vines, planted in 1971, stand on a clay-silt soil with a limestone subsoil. The base wine from the Cœur de Cuvée was fermented spontaneously and aged for nine months in four-year-old 228- and 400-litre barrels. Biological acid reduction took place. The wine was not sulphurised, but was vinified as a Brut Nature Disgorged. This bottle was filled 05/2020 and disgorged 02/2022.
Color
Straw yellow with fine perlage
Nose
The Le Jour made from 100 % Pinot Meunier, is a charming and sensual champagne. It combines notes of baked apple and pickled pears, yellow kiwi and Cape gooseberries, some pineapple and lemon curd with a little caramel, blond tobacco, wax and black berries.
Palate
The sensual impression of this wine continues on the palate. Champagne's continued. Although as Non-Dosé disgorged, the Meunier offers a fine extract sweetness countered by a lively acidity and freshness. The Champagne appears very open and inviting due to the absence of sulphur. The mouthfeel is silky, the wine salty and spicy and zesty with notes of tobacco, orange peel and wet stone with an overall creamy texture and a fine perlage.
