Wine information
The Riesling is grown on steep terraces on the Hessische Bergstrasse near Bensheim. The old vines are rooted in weathered granite. It is pure granite grit with a lot of skeleton and a sufficient proportion of fine soil. Spontaneous fermentation and ageing took place in stainless steel, where the Riesling rested for a long time on the full lees. Because the wine was bottled unfiltered, has a slight cloudiness and possibly did not meet the expected aroma profile of the test commission due to the minimal sulphurisation, it has become a Starkenburger Landwein.

Nose
Some corners of the Hessische Bergstrasse can remind you strongly of Alsace. This Riesling does too. It is the mixture of fullness and finesse that characterises the aroma. It also quickly becomes clear that it is a natural wine chameleon that is constantly changing. What can be recognised, however, are the notes of ripe, sometimes crumbly apples, pears and quinces, combined with wax, jasmine and other floral notes.
Palate
The palate is surprising because the Riesling appears completely dry despite the maturity it offers on the nose. At 11.5 % vol. it is also very discreet in alcohol. This could make it seem lean, but it is not. It appears lean, but with power and a good portion of extract, it shows good volume, permeated by a lively acidity. Aromatically, the Riesling continues the mixture of stone fruit and wax - supported by a mouth-watering saltiness in the dense yet transparent finish. It is worth decanting.
