Wine Description for Arbossar 2019 by Terroir al Limit

Colour & Appearance
Deep, dark purple with luminous violet reflections – a wine that reveals its youthfulness and power already in the glass.
Nose
Fascinatingly complex and still exuberant: dark berries, violets and violet pastilles meet elderberries, sour cherries and sloe. These are joined by blackcurrant leaf, beetroot and Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and juniper. Particularly characteristic: notes of candied black olives, which lend the wine a saline, Provençal dimension. The black Licorella slate is omnipresent and imparts mineral depth to the bouquet.
Palate
Powerful and concentrated, the Arbossar unfolds on the palate with impressive structure. The dark fruit is interwoven with herbal spice and saline minerality. The tannins are youthfully firm, yet already of remarkable fineness. The black slate lies almost tangibly on the tongue – a tactile, almost physical experience that transports you directly into the rugged landscape of Priorat. After adequate aeration, a surprising softness reveals itself, which elegantly balances the raw power.
Finish
Long, mineral and demanding with persistent freshness and fine tannin structure. The wine bids farewell with spice and stony precision.
Terroir & Origin
The 90-year-old Carignan vines are rooted at 350-400 metres altitude in Torroja del Priorat on black slate and granite – that legendary Licorella soil which gives Priorat its distinctive character. These old vines yield concentrated, profound grapes with natural balance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Carignan (Cariñena), vinified as whole bunch pressing. Fermentation and ageing took place in cement tank – a deliberate choice that places fruit and minerality to the fore and preserves the wine’s unpolished authenticity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Lamb rack with black olive breadcrumbs and rosemary jus, caramelised beetroot with smoked wild boar ham or wild mushroom tartlet with prunes and salted almonds.
Special Characteristics
A wine with impressive ageing potential of two decades and beyond. Those wishing to enjoy it young should decant generously. With time, it will develop Burgundian finesse and elegance – an impressive example of the potential of old Carignan vines in Priorat.
