Wine
Remírez de Ganuza "Trasnocho" Reserva 2010
Wine information
85 % Tempranillo and 10 % Graciano from old vines and grape skins from 5 % Viura and Malvasia. Cool pre-fermentation for 24 hours at four to six degrees Celsius. Overnight pressing using a special bag filled with water, which presses the grapes very gently, bringing a lot of extract into the juice and preventing oxidation. Matured for 22 months in new French barriques.
Color
deep dark ruby red with violet reflexes
Nose
Already the bouquet makes clear from the first moment that this is a great Rioja modern style. The nose is dense and concentrated, offers a lot of dark forest berry fruit, cassis and Amarena cherry, but above all the imprint that the 100 % new wood has left cedar and vanilla, tobacco and leather, oak and freshly roasted coffee, in which a hint of cardamom and wild herbs has crept. In the background and with a lot of air also the mineral component of the Trasnocho more and more obvious.
Palate
Rightly, the tannin still dominates in this wine. Because the Trasnocho is aged for a long time. Compared to the ageing of Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux, Fernando Remírez de Ganuza has gone all out to produce a Rioja that may peak in ten, 15 years. Now it's a case of decanting the wine hours before drinking and enjoying the young, dark, ripe fruit, the sweet core, the extract and the tannin, the texture of which is reminiscent of 80 %ige dark chocolate. The more air the Trasnocho the juicier it becomes, the clearer the impressive complexity of this aristocratic Rioja becomes.
