Wine Description for Syrah VdF 2023 from Maison Stephan

Colour & Appearance
Medium purple with violet reflections, slightly transparent – a youthful, lively impression in the glass that already visually announces the moderate extraction and natural approach.
Nose
Syrah as Glou-Glou? It works here. Invigorating freshness dominates with plenty of red and dark fruit: blackberries, red and black currants, blueberries. These are joined by mint and violets as well as cool mineral notes that let the granitic terroir shine through. Clear, precise, unadorned.
Palate
Juicy and refined, this Syrah presents itself on the palate – youthful in the best sense, with fresh acidity and delicate tannin that gives the wine structure without burdening it. Mint, liquorice, black olives and grilled herbs alternate, but above all you taste: fruit, fruit and more dark fruit. Uncomplicated to drink, but by no means simple.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from three different terroirs in Condrieu, Verin and Roussillon: alluvial soils, granite and glacial moraines. This diversity lends the wine complexity and a cool, mineral elegance that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from the northern Rhône.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Vinified according to the philosophy of Jules Chauvet: 24-hour cool pre-fermentation, followed by cool carbonic maceration fermentation over ten days. Eight months ageing in tank, unfiltered, unfined and unsulphited. Natural wine in its purest form – honest, transparent, lively.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Perfect with grilled vegetables, ratatouille, lamb chops or duck breast. Also an excellent choice with spiced lentil dishes or Mediterranean antipasti with olives and herbs.
Special Features
A refreshingly drinkable Syrah with just 12.5% alcohol that proves elegance and freshness can be more important than power and concentration. A natural wine that’s fun to drink without being dogmatic.
