Information about the wine:
The Pinot noir comes from the 18.06 hectare Premier Cru site Les Vergelesses in Pernand-Vergelesses. The terroir of Pernand-Vergelesses is similar to that of the Corton hill, characterized by siliceous and calcareous red marl, which has a high iron content. The clay content is around 30 % in Chandon's low-lying parcel. The domaine has 1.22 hectares facing east.
The year 2015 has meant well with the Burgundy. The summer was warm, partly even hot, but brought enough rain. The Les Vergelesses comes from 60 year old vines, was picked between the 1st and 12th of September and meticulously sorted out.
Color
:
dark cherry-red
Nose
:
A dark and spicy fruit is the hallmark of the Premier Cru site Les Vergelesses. The spicy note is underpinned by notes of undergrowth, dry wood, earth and dark, ripe cherry. 2015 pleasantly brings out the warmer berry notes.
Mouth:
This slight warmth in the fruit is in keeping with the Les Vergelesses good. The Pinot also shows the spicy note on the palate, along with power and the typical earthiness of this site, which reveals more of the rural and less of the sublime of Burgundy. The vintage gives the Pinot a round tannin, while the acidity and the moderate use of wood structure the wine.
Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt:
- Rabbit stew with spaetzle
(Wild, haregnocchi, spaetzle)
- Carrée of Duroc pork stuffed with prunes
(Meat, porkdried fruit)
- Pike perch roasted on the skin with beetroot and apple balsamic vinegar
(Fishzander, red/yellow beet)
