Wine Description for Instinct Meunier Brut Nature 2018 by Jeaunaux-Robin
- Colour & Appearance
- Sparkling luminous lemon yellow with delicate orange reflections and exceptionally fine, uniform bubbles – a visual promise that this Champagne more than delivers on the palate.
- Nose
- The bouquet seduces with a fascinating duality: mirabelle plum, ripe pineapple and peach meet warm buttered brioche and bourbon vanilla. Maritime notes of sea spray and oyster shell join in, rounded off by a hint of cool smoke. A nose that promises complexity and depth.
- Palate
- Here the true nature of this Champagne reveals itself: consistently dry, taut and clear. The gripping acidity structure builds tension immediately – this is sparkling wine for connoisseurs, not a complaisant aperitif chatterbox. A mineral film settles precisely across the palate, whilst the fruit is permeated by the cutting acidity. On the finish, pleasant bitter notes round off the flavour profile perfectly.
- Finish
- Long and persistent. Oyster shell and lemon zest dominate the aftertaste – mineral, saline, refreshing. A finale that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the parcel Le Grand Morceau in rural Tallus Les Prix on the Petit Morin, where 59-year-old vines are rooted in flint and clay soils. This cool site in the south of the Côte des Blancs is prone to late frost – ideal for robust Pinot Meunier. A small portion comes from the Côte des Bar.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Pinot Meunier from old vines. Aged in used barriques from 2004, without malolactic fermentation – which explains the vibrant acidity. Tirage 2019, 0g dosage. Cyril Jeaunaux has worked biodynamically since 2015 and creates honest, individual Champagnes with character.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Oysters and seafood are the natural partners. Perfect also with confit halibut with peas and parsley beurre blanc, fennel bratwurst with wholegrain mustard or roasted sweet potato with yellow lentils and tarragon.
- Special Features
- A rare example of a single-varietal Meunier Champagne from old vines. The zero dosage and absence of malolactic fermentation make it an uncompromising statement for purists – demanding, mineral, authentic.
