Color
In slightly translucent purple with garnet red rim, the wine appears clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
The bouquet of the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin immediately beguiles with full-bodied fruit and inevitably makes clear that power is hidden behind its fine nature. Small wild strawberries meet blackberries and blueberries. This fine, dark fruit is reinforced and underpinned by earthy and subtly smoky notes of roasted mushrooms and chestnuts, as well as barley malt, Russian bread and tobacco leaf.
Palate
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin from Trapet Père & Fils is a perfect representative of its origins. The subtle marriage of steely structure and voluptuous hipness. Due to its youthfulness, its balanced and grippy tannin is still a little wild, but will turn loud into quiet over the next few years. Sustained length gives its opulent fruit a floating quality. The Fats Domino of Burgundy is a confessed powerhouse and at the same time a sensitive virtuoso on his instrument.
...that gets under your skin through your mouth.
