Wine Description for Pommard „Clos des Roses“ Monopole AOC 2022 by Rougeot Père & Fils

Character
The Pommard „Clos des Roses“ is a Monopole – an exclusive vineyard site worked solely by Rougeot Père & Fils. This exclusivity lends the wine a distinctive identity. With a moderate 13% alcohol content, the 2022 vintage represents an elegant, restrained style that prioritises Burgundian finesse over power. The designation „Clos des Roses“ promises a certain accessibility and floral grace that sets it apart from the often more muscular Pommards.
Terroir & Origin
Pommard ranks among the most characterful appellations of the Côte de Beaune. The soils here are rich in iron and limestone, which impart the wines with their typical structure and minerality. The village has no Grand Cru, but boasts numerous outstanding Premier Crus and village-level sites. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was marked by drought and heat, yet with careful vineyard work resulted in concentrated grapes with good acidity structure. The cooler microclimate of an enclosed Clos may well have had a moderating effect.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir is Burgundy’s sole red grape variety and often achieves a darker, more earth-bound expression in Pommard than in neighbouring communes. Rougeot Père & Fils operates as a family estate employing traditional methods that respect the character of the vineyard site. The monopoly status enables uncompromising work according to their own vision – from harvest through to maturation. Given this moderate alcohol level, one can expect controlled extraction and maturation that foregrounds fruit and terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pommard demands hearty cuisine: Coq au Vin, Boeuf Bourguignon or braised lamb shoulder are classic partners. Game birds, duck breast and aged Comté also harmonise beautifully. The wine’s structure carries spiced mushroom dishes and beef steak with shallots with ease.
