There are people who are able to change an entire wine region with their commitment. One of them is the Clemens Busch winery on the Moselle.
Clemens and Rita Busch
In the picturesque Moselle region, Clemens and his wife Rita have continued their family's legacy and made the winery one of the most recognised in the region. Under Clemens' leadership since the 1980s, there has been a strong focus on nature-based practices in the vineyard and cellar to showcase the true expression of the terroir. Clemens and Rita were among the first practising biodynamicists in German viticulture.

Insights into the vineyards
An impressive example of Clemens' commitment is the steep Pündericher Marienburg vineyard. 16 hectares of his vineyards are located there, and although this vineyard is now considered one of the best in the Moselle, its history is filled with challenges.
In the 1980s, when many vintners abandoned their steep sites, Clemens saw an opportunity and bought plots from neighbours. In doing so, he expanded his holdings of wonderful monopoly vineyards within Marienburg.
A quest for authenticity
Despite the land consolidation that uniformly named the hill "Marienburg", Clemens has recognised and appreciated the individual characters of the different terroirs. The winery produces wines under the original names of the vineyards to emphasise their uniqueness.

The sites of Clemens Busch
The original Marienburg single vineyard is oriented to the south/southwest and is dominated by grey slate. The wines "»vom grauen Schiefer" and "»Marienburg GG", among others, come from there.
The Rothen's Path consists entirely of red slate - a real rarity on the Moselle. Until 2006, this piece lay fallow and was overgrown by undergrowth. Today, old and younger vines are growing here on about one hectare. The »vom roten Schiefer" and »Marienburg GG Rothenpfad" are produced here.
Falkenlay is dominated by grey slate and lies between the Rothenpfad and Fahrlay. These parcels are considered by some connoisseurs as the "fillet piece" of the hill and provide the best grapes for noble sweet wines. A special selection of the best grapes from old vineyards is bottled under the name "»Raffes".
The Rock terraceLast but not least, is a tiny parcel and Clemens' favorite vineyard. The soils consist of thick grey slate and are particularly difficult to work. Vinification

The art of winemaking
The wines mature in historic Moselfudern, wooden barrels with a capacity of 1000 litres. Authenticity is the focus of the vinification process - with minimal additives and no fining.
