About the wine
This remarkable drop owes its origin to the picturesque vineyards of Zöbingen, which are characterised by primary rock and loess soils. The cuvée contains mainly Grüner Veltliner, complemented by Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Welschriesling. On 19 September 2017, the grapes were carefully harvested by hand and transported in 20-kilo crates before being de-stemmed and gently pressed after twelve hours of maceration. Fermentation took place spontaneously, both in steel tanks and in large wooden barrels, at a moderate 20 to 22 °C. The wine was matured both in stainless steel and in wooden barrels. The wine was initially left on the full lees for two months, followed by a further three months on the fine lees.

Strong, luminous golden yellow
Nose
With this unconventional cuvée, one quickly notices that the overall picture is so much more than the sum of its parts. The Zöbinger Alte Reben is a wine that is both profound and harmonious, combining wonderful aromas of white flowers and dried herbs with elements of red Kampot pepper, ginger and grass. Its fruit notes combine yellow apples with traces of peach and apricot, complemented by grapefruit and kumquats, including their aromatic skins.
Mouth
Although the cuvée appears rather slender, it convinces with an impressive complexity and conciseness. The wine is refreshingly juicy and spicy, with a successful interplay of ripe yellow pome fruit, stone fruit, melon and citrus fruits. A hint of grassy, cereal-like notes also provides a smooth texture on the palate. Absolutely outstanding are the spicy grapefruit and pepper aromas, which blend harmoniously with a salty, stony and iodine note. The finish is rounded off by a subtle hint of bacon. This is remarkable complexity wrapped in enchanting lightness!
Food recommendations
You could enjoy this gem with a refreshing salad of asparagus, rice noodles, sesame seeds, wasabi, soy sauce and spring onions. Teriyaki noodles paired with grilled prawn skewers would also be an excellent choice. Or how about summer rolls filled with sprouts, cabbage, ginger and coriander greens, wrapped in delicate rice paper?
