Zio Paolo is Vito Lauria's first wine and thus the progenitor of the VinoLauria collection. The single-varietal Nero d'Avola comes from the wide and flat plains with heavy clay soils around Alcamo. Stylistically, it represents the new Sicily with its light style and shows that filigree and freshness need not be foreign words even for Nero d'Avola. Harvested in mid-September, the yield averages five tonnes per hectare. The grapes are pressed and cold macerated on the skins for 24 hours. Fermented spontaneously in steel tanks, the wine matures on its lees for 12 months before being put on sale.
Color
Dark ruby red with violet reflections and black core
Nose
The nose of the 2019 ZioPaolo from VinoLauria is bursting with red and black fruits, blackberries, mulberries and blueberries, complemented by black cherries and fully ripe plums. Mild spices such as black pepper and cardamom as well as black tobacco are underlaid with brown bananas and autumnal aromas.
Mouth
The 2019 ZioPaolo from VinoLauria shows its juvenile, impetuous side on the nose. The fresh fruit is framed by youthful tannin like the sapphire on the ring of a nouveau riche rapper. Sparkling and clear, it is joyfully and juicily fuelled by electrifying acidity. Animatingly tart with a finely fruity cool finish. Legit!
