Wine information
This is a sparkling wine made from 100 % Vinhão, a red grape variety where the pulp is also coloured through. The wine was stepped and fermented in stone lagares. After pressing, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation, aged on fine lees and underwent secondary fermentation in bottle. It was disgorged after 67 months.
Color
Dark violet with fine perlage
Nose
The 2006 Yakkos is an expressive sparkling wine. This is not surprising, as the colour is almost opaque. The 100 %ige Vinhão smells of plums, wild raspberries and blackberries with hints of violets, tobacco and dark chocolate. The fragrance is rounded off by a hint of stone and undergrowth.
Palate
On the palate, this is a sparkling wine that shows obvious tannin while having so much acidity that it's a grippy experience. Almost like Sparkling Shiraz combines here a dense and dry, ripe and dark fruity consistency with fine bubbles. This is a powerful and full-bodied bubbler with acidity and freshness - much more food companion than soloist.
