Jean-Charles Abbatucci is one of Corsica's most fascinating winemakers. His Faustine Vieilles Vignes Blanc is an impressive testimony to what old Vermentino vines can achieve on granite soils. With vines 40 years old and minimal yields of just 20 hectolitres per hectare, the result is a white wine of remarkable concentration and precision.<\/p>\n
In the glass, the wine presents itself in a pale, bright green-yellow colour with light, almost silvery reflections - typical of the cool vinification and the youthful character of this vintage.<\/p>\n
The nose reveals a multi-layered aroma: green and yellow apples of different varieties meet Nashi pears, mirabelle plums and nectarines. This fruity bouquet is accompanied by delicate notes of apple and almond blossom. The still youthful, slightly steely character with yeasty nuances lends the wine additional complexity. Fresh almond kernels, a hint of yeast and an impressive spectrum of garden herbs round off the bouquet.<\/p>\n
The Faustine reveals its true class on the palate: lean, juicy and of marvellous precision. The apple flavours dominate, accompanied by a delightful mixture of tart and sour components - like biting into an unpeeled apple. Pleasant bitter and floral notes lend the wine finesse and elegance. The well-integrated acidity structure ensures fluidity and balance. The finish is long and aromatically consistent.<\/p>\n
Vinified from 100% Vermentino from around 18 hectares of granite soils at an altitude of around 100 metres. Hand-picked in the early hours of the morning, gentle pressing and slow fermentation at 18\u00b0C. Matured for five months in stainless steel, unfined and only lightly filtered. 13% alcohol.<\/p>\n
This elegant islander harmonises perfectly with Gently cooked char with cucumber, capers and elderflower vinaigrette<\/strong>, Green peas with mint and burrata<\/strong> or dressed sheep's cheese on rocket salad with balsamic dressing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n An authentic expression of Corsican winemaking - minimalistically vinified, characterised by terroir and with impressive freshness.
